Information requested

The total number of staff employed by Scottish Forestry The number of woodland officers employed by Scottish Forestry The number of cases currently active of each Woodland officer in the south Scotland conservancy.

Response

As of 1 May 2021 Scottish Forestry employs 189 staff, 30 of whom are Woodland Officers, with 7 based in the South of Scotland Conservancy.

The total number of active (submitted not yet approved) cases in South Scotland is as follows:

Woodland Creation – 47 Restructuring and Regeneration – 12 Woodland Improvement – 16 Sustainable Management of Forests - 2 Tree Health – 5 Infrastructure and small scale sector development – 5 Felling Permissions – 70 Forest Plans – 15.

The number of cases managed by woodland officer is not possible to quantify as Scottish Forestry has Woodland Officers, Assistant Woodland Officers, part time colleagues, students, undergraduates and short term temporary staff, together with 3 Woodland Officer vacancies, who together with other Conservancy staff work on cases.
