Information requested

Annual accident stats from 2012 to 2020 (even though these are provisional) for 2 sections of the A9, namely Dunblane to Perth and also Perth to Inverness. Within those 2 categories, it would appear to be possible to give further geographical information by council classification. The published records gives figures for Perth & Kinross and Highland districts. I am looking for casualty stats (fatal, serious, slight) for the 2 sections of the A9 (Dunblane to Perth and then Perth to Inverness) for the same period of 2012 to 2020 (provisional). I know that there is much more available about the category of vehicles involved in accidents, such as HGVs over 7.5 tonnes, other HGVs and cars. Would you let me know how easy it is to get this information too?

Response

As the information you have requested is 'environmental information' for the purposes of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs), we are required to deal with your request under those Regulations. We are applying the exemption at section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), so that we do not also have to deal with your request under FOISA. This exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption, because there is no public interest in dealing with the same request under two different regimes. This is essentially a technical point and has no material effect on the outcome of your request. Please see Annex A-D to this response for a copy of the information you requested. Annex A provides the annual accident statistics from 2012 to 2020 for the two sections of the A9 requested. Annex B and C provide the casualty statistics requested, ie fatal, serious, slight. Annex B and C also provide information on the category of vehicles involved. Please note that in Annex B and C there may be more than one row of information in relation to one accident to provide the level of information requested. Annex D provides the accidents by local authority. We are aware of a number of accident records where there is a conflict between the local authority information and the location of the accident. We do try to establish with Police Scotland what the corrections should be and these are applied where they become available. About FOI The Scottish Government is committed to publishing all information released in response to Freedom of Information requests. View all FOI responses at http://www.gov.scot/foi-responses.
