Response

I enclose a copy of the information you requested on projections of teacher numbers.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested on childcare and early learning staff.

The Scottish Government does not project childcare and early learning staff figures. As part of the Scottish Government’s work with the Improvement Service on monitoring the expansion to 1140 hours of funded early learning and childcare for the August 2020 delivery date in place prior to the Covid-19 pandemic period, we worked with Local Authorities to establish the numbers of FTE staff still requiring to be recruited to enable rollout of the expansion at several data points from 2018 onwards. The Improvement Service compiled and published these figures at national level, showing forecasts from December 2018 to April 2021. Scottish Government is now working with local authority partners to establish an updated position on additional staffing requirements, in the context of work to reset the timetable for delivery of the 1140 hours expansion.

About FOI The Scottish Government is committed to publishing all information released in response to Freedom of Information requests. View all FOI responses at http://www.gov.scot/foi-responses.
