Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq funding of students: FOI release
Information requested
You asked for the following information in relation to the Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq:
Details of the background of the funding; How many places are funded per year; and What support provision is provided for fees and living costs.
Response
The funding of students undertaking courses at the International de Theatre Jacques Lecoq is part of a historical arrangement dating back to 1975 with the (then) Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD). At that time the Scottish Education Department could offer a grant to students of high ability who were recommended by that Principal to undertake a period of specialised study. The funding arrangement has evolved whereby a student can now apply directly to the International de Theatre Jacques Lecoq to undertake a course of study and apply to the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) for funding support.
In terms of places funded per year, there is a cap of one student per year. However, participation from Scottish domiciled students is very rare and we have supported only a very small number of students studying there over the years. In most academic years, we have not supported any students.
Lastly you ask for information on what support provisions are provided for fees and living costs. Eligible students can apply for the same level of funding as any Scottish domiciled student undertaking a fundable postgraduate qualification in Scotland. That is a tuition fee grant up to £5,500 and a living cost grant of £4,500.
