Response
The Scottish Government announced the Infrastructure Commission on 13th December 2018 and Commissioner appointments were confirmed on 11th February 2019.
The Commission will provide independent, informed advice on the vision, ambition and priorities for a long-term, 30-year, strategy for infrastructure in Scotland to meet its future economic growth and societal needs, and will also be required to consider advice and recommendations to ministers on the delivery of infrastructure in Scotland, including the possible creation of a Scottish National Infrastructure Company. Its work is expected to run until mid-2020. More information is available on the Commission’s website: https://infrastructurecommission.scot/
The running costs associated with Commission are travel and subsistence for Commissioners, a budget for research and related costs, and Commission secretariat costs - with secretariat staff being assigned from each of Scottish Government and Scottish Futures Trust. Commissioners are not being paid a fee for their involvement. The non-staff running cost of the commission is estimated to be in the range £150,000- £200,000. There are no additional set up costs elements associated with the establishment of the Commission.
