Information requested

Over the latest 5 year period for which statistics are available, how many of the appointments to the head of national organisations made by the Scottish Government or Scottish Parliament have been in favour of women and how many have been in favour of men?

Response

This response covers organisations which are either Executive Agencies of the Scottish Government, Non-Ministerial Departments (NMDs) or other independent bodies where the Chief Executive is a Senior Civil Servant. Within the latest 5 year period i.e. since 1 January 2013 the Scottish Government has made 10 Senior Civil Service appointments to the head of Scottish Government Executive Agencies, 2 to the head of NMDs and 1 to the head of another independent body. Of those 4 were women and 9 were men. A list of the bodies covered by this response is attached.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because a) public bodies are responsible for the recruitment of their own Chief Executives; and b) the Scottish Parliament is responsible for any appointments made or approved by its Committees. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
