Response

The decision to postpone the National Residential Child Care Initiative (NRCCI) – in relation to the proposal for the residential childcare workforce to hold a SCQF Level 9 qualification - was made in July 2017.

The Scottish Government consulted with stakeholders, including COSLA and some public, third party and independent service providers about introducing the new minimum qualifications from October 2017. The results of this consultation in conjunction with the launch of the Independent Care Review led to the decision to postpone the NRCCI, which was announced in July 2017.

The Former First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, met with care experienced people to discuss the 1000 voices campaign at Bute House on Friday 19 August 2016. At this meeting, a documentary on looked after children was filmed which aimed to raise public awareness, reduce stigma and stimulate further debate on how outcomes for looked after young people could be improved.

Other than members of Who Cares Scotland and Scottish Government officials, those in attendance included two camera operators, a sound recordist, a producer and editor.
