Information requested

From 1/1/2024 to 1/11/2024 (dates inclusive), all correspondence between the Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills and all office-bearers at Cosla, regarding the £145.5m of funding for recruitment and retention of teachers which has been withheld from councils.

Response

I have enclosed copies of the correspondence between the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills and all office-bearers at COSLA, regarding the £145.5m of funding to maintain teacher numbers.

It may be helpful to explain that the Scottish Government is not withholding this funding. Discussions are currently ongoing between the Scottish Government and COSLA to agree the terms and conditions of this significant funding. A decision will be made on the allocation of the £145.5 million to local authorities after the Summary Statistics for schools in Scotland are confirmed in December.
