2. The number of faults recorded this year broken down by Local Authority.
3. The number of EV chargers currently out of order at the time of reply broken down by FOI [sic]
Response
I am able to supply some of the information requested.
1.The number of EV charge points are currently in Scotland broken down by Local Authority.
We can only provide current information relating to the Scottish Government funded ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) public electric vehicle (EV) charging network. You can view information about all public charge points in Scotland by local authority area on the Department for Transport’s quarterly statistical release here. The next statistical release is due to be published imminently.
Not all charge points on the ChargePlace Scotland network are for public use, some may be restricted to private use (for example, a staff car park) or fleet use (for example, commercial vehicles or ambulances). I have taken your question to mean that you are interested in public charge points.
Please find a table overleaf that has the information requested, split down by Local Authority.

2.The number of faults recorded this year broken down by Local Authority.
We can only provide current information relating to the Scottish Government funded ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) public electric vehicle (EV) charging network. The commercial charging networks do not make their fault information publicly available.
Please note that under Section 25(1) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 we do not have to disclose information where the requester can reasonably obtain the information without making a request for it.
The ChargePlace Scotland website provides information on faults at the following link: Monthly Charge Point Performance – Charge Place Scotland
If you click on “October charge point report” that will download an excel document. You will see that column “E” is local authority area. This can be filtered to supply the information you require. Reports are available for each month of the year.
Please be advised that CPS ‘faults’ cover many different scenarios and do not necessarily relate to issues that affect the operation of the charging infrastructure itself, for example, it could relate to lighting at the site. Some faults may be reported by more than one member of the public and therefore each recorded fault is not necessarily a unique instance.
3. The number of EV chargers currently out of order at the time of reply broken down by FOI [sic]
I have taken that by ‘FOI’ you mean Local Authority.
We can only provide current information relating to the Scottish Government funded ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) public electric vehicle (EV) charging network. The commercial charging networks do not make their fault information publicly available.
The table overleaf contains the information you have requested for the CPS network.
The information shows charge points which currently have ‘fault tickets’ related to known issues which prevent them from being used. This includes infrastructure issues, such as problems with power supply and stuck cables. It does not include charge points that are in working order but cannot be accessed due to, for example, road closures or other site access issues as these are outwith the control of ChargePlace Scotland.
Please note a communication transmission error isn’t classified/considered a fault as the charge point itself may be in good working order; this follows the same definition used to calculate ‘reliability’ in the UK Public Charge Point Regulations 2023.
