Information requested

With reference to the Scottish Government's answer to Parliamentary Question S6W-41776, a copy of all correspondence held by the Scottish Government relating to the "reassurance" that was sought and received from the Scottish Youth Parliament regarding its child protection and safeguarding procedures.

The Parliamentary Question referenced in the request was “To ask the Scottish Government what engagement it has had with the Scottish Youth Parliament following reports of harassment and inappropriate behaviour”. The responses stated that “officials have sought reassurance from the SYP about its child protection and safeguarding procedures in the context of the management of these grants. In September 2025, SYP provided reassurance that they work continuously to strengthen their safeguarding guidelines and procedures in line with evolving national child protection policies.”

Document One

This is an email chain starting on 19th Sep 2025. Jamie Dunlop CEO of Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) informs the Children’s Rights Unit of a possible news story about harassment and inappropriate behaviour. The final email in the chain confirms the news story was published by the Herald on 23/09/2025. The names of those who are not senior civil servants or within a senior role within a third sector organisation have been redacted in accordance with FOI protocols.

Document Two

This is an email exchange from 24th September between the Children’s Rights Unit, the Child Protection Unit and the Office of the Chief Social Work Advisor. It documents the internal correspondence about SYP’s offer to “walk SG through their procedures” .

Document Three

This is an invitation from the Programme Lead in the Children’s Rights Unit to Jamie Dunlop, CEO of SYP, for a meeting with Unit Head and Deputy Chief Social Work Advisor Angela Latta on the 1st Oct. It shows the purpose was for SYP “to walk SG through their safeguarding and child-protection systems and guidance”. . Again, the names of those who are not senior civil servants or within a senior role within a third sector organisation have been redacted.

Document Four

This is a word document containing notes from a meeting between Jamie Dunlop CEO SYP, Angela Latta - Deputy Chief Social Work Advisor, Unit Head, Children’s Rights Unit, and a Programme Lead, Children’s Rights Unit. The meeting took place on 1st Oct 2025. The meeting notes outline SYP providing information on their safeguarding and child protection policies. Again, the names of those who are not senior civil servants or within a senior role within a third sector organisation have been redacted.
