You have requested a list of all schools in Scotland, the local authority they are located in, and the date of their last inspection to be provided in an Excel sheet.
This information is attached at Annex A.
Notes on the data provided:
1. The list of local authority and grant-aided schools is taken from the Scottish Government’s School Contact Details as at January 2024 (updated February 2024) published on the Scottish Government website.
2. This list details all primary, secondary, all-through and special schools in Scotland with a unique SEED code.
3. The list of independent schools is taken from the Independent Schools in Scotland Register as at March 2024 published on the Sottish Government website.
4. The date of last inspection is the date of the visit to the school as part of the inspection process.
5. The date is calculated based on the original inspection and does not include any subsequent further inspections which took place as a result of the outcome of the original inspection.
6. The data includes schools that have been inspected, but the inspection report is not yet published.
7. This data includes schools that are open either as a new school or through a merger which have not yet been selected for inspection. The date of inspection in these cases is recorded as “N/A”
8. This data includes Gaelic Units and additional support units which were inspected as part of a school. The date of the last inspection is therefore the same as the inspection date of the school they are located within.
9. When a new independent school is opened it is subject to a post-registration inspection.
10. Independent schools may be selected for a quality improvement through engagement visit by HM Inspectors. These visits result in a published report on Education Scotland’s website. These visits are recorded in the data provided.
11. The data for independent schools includes special inspections requested by Scottish Ministers under Section 66 (1) of the Education (Scotland) Act 1980.
12. On 13 March 2020, Education Scotland paused all inspection activity due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
