Social Security Scotland staffing per grade and Annual Spend Budget: FOI release
Information requested
Please provide the following in relation to your procurement department:
Request for information 1: Total annual spend/budget. Request for Information 2: Number of staff per grade. Request for information 3: Salary scale for each grade including any retention allowance.
Response
Social Security Scotland has non-staff spend with a value in excess of £60 million per annum, our Procurement and Commercial team support the organisation to ensure this expenditure achieves value for money and compliance with procurement legislation.
Request for information 1:
The 2023/24 staffing budget for the Procurement & Commercial team is £2,287,000. Our current forecast for 2023/2024 is £2,108,749. This includes all employer costs such as salaries, superannuation, national insurance contributions, travel and training.

As with all Social Security Scotland staff who are employed by the Scottish Government, the salaries of our procurement & commercial colleagues are set by the Scottish Government in line with Scottish Government pay policy. Scottish Government pay policy is informed by UK Government pay policy, public sector spending controls, and the need to recruit, retain and motivate staff.
