Teacher workforce statistics: FOI release

You asked for a breakdown of the total number of full-time equivalent teachers employed at each point in the Main Grade Scale, for each local authority area.
Response
The Main Grade headcount (FTE) figures displayed in the table below are collected by the Scottish Government annually via local authority data returns.
The Scottish Government's 2025 Teaching Staff FTE Pay Data Collection collated staff data as of the week commencing 8 September 2025. The data below is therefore representative of September 2025.
Data collection coverage is as follows:
all permanent and temporary staff employed in areas covered by the Scottish Negotiation Committee for Teachers (SNCT) pay deal only, whether employed in schools (including preschools) or centrally; those on maternity/paternity leave, those on long-term sick leave or training, and their long-term replacements, and seconded replacements; long-term supply staff and permanent supply pool staff, i.e. those paid irrespective of whether teaching during census week.
Where the letter "c" is displayed, the data has been suppressed. This is because the value is greater than 0 but less than 5 or where, if shown, it would be possible to calculate other values less than 5.”
