Information requested

A list of meetings between Angus Robertson MSP and Spanish officials or politicians since his appointment as Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture, and for all minutes and notes taken regarding the topics of Catalonia or Scottish independence if they were discussed.

Response

Mr Robertson has had the following meetings with Spanish politicians and officials in his current role:

23 September 2021 – Mr Robertson meeting with the Ambassador of Spain to the UK 1-3 November 2022 – Mr Robertson visit to Madrid, including meetings with:

Cabinet Undersecretary for Culture and Sports, Eduardo Fernandez Palomares Director General for Policies Against Depopulation, Juana Lopez Pagán Secretary of State for the European Union, Pascual Ignacio Navarro Ríos

I have attached a copy of the engagement report for the meeting with the Spanish Ambassador, with the information in scope. Some of the information within the engagement report has been redacted because it is not within scope or because an exemption under section 38(1)(b) (personal information) of FOISA applies to that information. The engagement reports for the other meetings do not contain any information within scope of the request.

Section 38(1)(b) – Personal information

An exemption under section 38(1)(b) applies to some of the information requested because it is personal data of a third party (i.e. names/contact details of individuals), and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
