Information on the methodology of our STPR2 survey.

The answer to your questions are:
1) Can you tell me exactly how you will use the answers to the questions on ethnic background, gender, religion and sexual orientation in the analysis and reporting of the survey results? The questions have been designed to help inform the understanding of problems and potential interventions based on respondent’s characteristics. The questions will further help inform the Equalities Impact Assessment being undertaken as part of STPR2. Any reporting of results will be at an aggregate level.
2) Can you tell me why you have chosen not to ask or record the sex of respondents to the survey? We appreciate that the topics of sex and gender are being debated at the moment and at the time of the survey we took into consideration the guidance available by the Scottish Government for cross-sectional surveys, in addition to the research paper prepared on the topic of sex and gender identity for the Scotland 2021 Census. Since that time the National Records of Scotland (NRS) has recommended the inclusion of a binary sex question with self-identification guidance for the 2021 census. The final decision on the questions (with regards to sex and gender) to be asked in Scotland’s census 2021 will however be made by the Scottish parliament later this year. We are tracking these developments and any future surveys will align to the latest Government guidance on this matter.
