Response

The answer to your question is that the Scottish Government has allocated £35,000 to set up and run a Human Rights Defender Fellowship. The scheme will take two fellows for three months from September to December 2018. The University of Dundee will host the Fellowship and provide the necessary administrative functions. The costs incurred in connection with the Fellowship will be met by the Scottish Government.

The source of the above funding is the Scottish Government. The sum in question is contained within the £22.7 million allocated to Equalities in the Scottish Budget for 2018-19. Further information about the Budget and the Scottish Government's spending plans can be found on the Scottish Government website at:

/budget/

Once operational, the Fellowship may be eligible for grant funding from the EU Temporary Relocation Platform of up to 50% of the cost for each human rights defender. Further information about the Platform can be found at: https://www.hrdrelocation.eu/
