Information requested

How many homes have been approved under the Scottish government’s scheme to boost key workers in rural areas and how many have been utilised, broken down into each region.

Response

The five year demand-led Rural Affordable Homes for Key Workers Fund was announced in April 2023 with up to £25 million being made available to enable local authorities and registered social landlords to acquire or lease properties which can be used to provide homes to meet the needs of key workers in their rural and island communities.

As of the end of April 2026, 43 homes have been approved through the Rural Affordable Homes for Key Workers Fund.

The 43 approved homes are in the following local authority areas:

Highland: 18 homes Moray: 4 homes Na h-Eileanan Siar (Western Isles): 6 homes North Ayrshire: 5 homes Orkney Islands: 10 homes

Of the 43 homes approved, 30 homes are recorded as completed. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested.

Regarding the second part of your request, “how many have been utilised”, this information is held by the local authority or registered social landlord responsible for allocating and managing the homes; we are therefore unable to provide it.
