Information requested

Information on how many institutions applied to host the Centre for Teaching Excellence and which institutions applied.

The applications submitted by the University of Glasgow at both stage 1 and stage 2 of the process and any correspondence between the University of Glasgow and the Scottish Government on the subject of the Centre for Teaching Excellence.

Response

We received five applications to host the Centre for Teaching Excellence and the institutions that applied were as follows:

University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde consortium consisting of Queen Margaret University, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and University of the Highlands and Islands University of West of Scotland, Edinburgh Napier University and; Edinburgh consortium consisting of The University of Edinburgh, University of Stirling, University of Dundee and University of Aberdeen.

Correspondence between the University of Glasgow and the Scottish Government on the subject of the Centre for Teaching Excellence is contained in the attachment.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because of exemptions under section s 38(1)(b) (personal information of FOISA applies to that information. The reasons why that exemption(s) applies are explained in the Annex to this letter.

An exemption applies

An exemption under section s.38(1)(b)(personal information) of FOISA applies to some of the information you have requested. This is due to personal employee information and sensitivities relating to employee salaries.

This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
