Transport Scotland's contract with AISIN Roadtrace: FOI release
Information requested
I read online that Transport Scotland were using a product called AISIN Roadtrace to try to predict accidents/plan for road safety.
Under the freedom of information act, I would like to understand how this product has been used in road safety planning by Transport Scotland.
I would also like to know for how long Transport Scotland has been working with AISIN. How much Transport Scotland has paid for this service. When does the current contract end?

Transport Scotland are aware of the significant opportunities offered by accessing connected vehicle data and the benefits it may bring. As part of this, Transport Scotland engaged with Aisin in 2024 to undertake a trial study of the trunk road network to identify any high risk / near miss locations represented by clusters of harsh braking events that have not led to a crash. Having been presented with the initial harsh barking data / findings we have asked our specialist Traffic Scotland Operations Contractor (TSOC) to undertake some further analysis to identify whether it can contribute to our ongoing efforts to reduce incidents i.e. by identifying otherwise unknown areas of risk. Upon completion of this analysis we will then share across relevant teams including Road Safety and the Safety Camera Partnership Office.
Transport Scotland has paid £34,100 to Aisin for the trial study, this is a one-off payment with no contract term.
