Guidance for local authorities: EIR release
Information requested
information on the application of building regulations to domestic extensions and the recent change to published guidance and 'removal of the ability to use improvements to an existing house to compensate for areas of glazing in an extension which are more than 25% of the floor area'.
Are you giving any guidance to Local Authorities on this question, particularly in terms of what they can consider acceptable as alternative methods of compliance. If you have issued any guidance, please could you send me a copy?
Response
The Scottish Government has not initiated any issue any guidance to Scottish local authorities on the above topic.
Since original publication of the revised Technical Handbook in June 2022, we have received one request from a local authority verifier on the topic and have provided a response.
The request and response are attached as Annex A.
