Information requested

I’m looking for information regarding previous and planned roadworks for the Erskine Bridge, A898.

Between 2000 and 2025 if held.

The reason for this request to understand the times between carriageway resurfacing works as the surface is degrading.

Response

As the information you have requested is 'environmental information' for the purposes of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs), we are required to deal with your request under those Regulations. We are applying the exemption at section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), so that we do not also have to deal with your request under FOISA.

This exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption, because there is no public interest in dealing with the same request under two different regimes. This is essentially a technical point and has no material effect on the outcome of your request.

Please see the below table to this response for a copy of the information requested.

October 2003 – surfacing repairs undertaken as part of the phase 4 structural refurbishment works. Remedial surfacing repairs undertaken in the northbound carriageway only. May 2005 – expansion joint works, including surfacing repairs. Twelve small scale surfacing repairs undertaken. September 2007 – undertaken as part of bridge miscellaneous maintenance. Further surfacing repairs undertaken. The A898 Erskine Bridge had its vehicle barriers replaced between July 2013 and September 2014. Vehicle Barrier Replacement – Carriageway surfacing Repairs were undertaken as part of this contract scope. 2021 surfacing patching repairs. During 2021 surfacing patch repairs were undertaken to the northbound and southbound carriageway. 2023 nosing joint replacement. During October of 2023 the southbound nosing joint was replaced. Included within this work scope was surfacing repairs local to the south abutment expansion joint – on bridge and off bridge. July 2025 – northbound carriageway planned surfacing works. Our Operating Company, Amey, is currently tendering a largescale surfacing patching scheme to the northbound carriageway. Works are currently programmed for July and August 2025. Pothole repairs (described as category 1 defects) have been undertaken on a recurring basis.
