Information requested

I am writing to request detail on the road closure on the section of the A82 from the Lomondgate roundabout to the Stoneymollin roundabout. Press releases indicate that overnight road closures will be in place on 2nd and 3rd July 2025 for the northbound carriage on 6th and 7th July 2025.

These closures have been intimated as being required for investigatory work.

I would be grateful if Transport Scotland could advise

a) why this investigatory work is being required together with b) confirmation of any works that might be taken during these closures and c) confirmation of what future works may possibly be required in respect of what the investigation reveals and likely timescale for scheduling any such work. d) Any other scheduled maintenance anticipated over the next two years.

Response

As the information you have requested is 'environmental information' for the purposes of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs), we are required to deal with your request under those Regulations. We are applying the exemption at section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), so that we do not also have to deal with your request under FOISA.

This exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption, because there is no public interest in dealing with the same request under two different regimes. This is essentially a technical point and has no material effect on the outcome of your request.

This part of the response covers answers to your questions A, C and D.

The works are being undertaken by our operating company to aid the design of installation and upgrades of central reservation crossover points which is planned to be undertaken in winter 2025/26 and planned bridge refurbishments planned for autumn/winter 2026/27.

This response covers the answer to question B.

The works being undertaken within the closures include various tests and surveys on the carriageway, verge/central reservation and topographical surveys. Paint surveys are also planned on the steel beams supporting A82 Howgate bridge.
