Information requested

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

I would like to request a complete dataset of marker post (distance marker / location marker) locations for all motorways and trunk roads managed by Transport Scotland.

For each marker post, I request the following information where held:

Road name or road number (e.g. M8, A9) Unique marker post identifier (e.g. 10/7) Easting coordinate Northing coordinate Coordinate reference system used (if not implicit) Any additional location reference data commonly associated with the marker post (if available)

I would prefer the data to be provided in a machine-readable format, such as:

Microsoft Excel (.xlsx), or CSV (.csv)

If the information is already held in another structured digital format, I would be happy to receive it in that format.

Response

As the information you have requested is 'environmental information' for the purposes of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs), we are required to deal with your request under those Regulations. We are applying the exemption at section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), so that we do not also have to deal with your request under FOISA.

This exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption, because there is no public interest in dealing with the same request under two different regimes. This is essentially a technical point and has no material effect on the outcome of your request.

I enclose a copy of all of the information you requested in the format you asked for. This information has been collated using records held by Transport Scotland, our Operating Companies and our Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) partners.
